The word “TITA,” pronounced – TIT-ah, has a number of different meanings. It also depends on how you say it, much like how you would say “Hello.” Hello can be said in a way that it means, “…is anyone home?”, ”…yes, what do you want now…”, “…can I get your name and number?” or simply as a greeting.
Our experience is that Tita pretty much meana a tough person physically and/or mentally. We’ve also seen it as having the meaning of “sister.” Although you might hear “SISTA,” pronounced “SIS-tah.” More on this later.
But in any case you definitely don’t want to be calling someone you don’t know TITA.
Uses: “Howzit tita..” “Wha-chou (what you) like tita…” “…Eh – Tita – settle down…”
Our Hawaiian friends mostly call us this.. oops. Did I spill out some of our true selves there?
ok… I’ve been asked to change this.. one of us has been called TITA.. the other one, SISTA… :0
